Brownfields

Building Bridges

Spanning across seven counties and over 9,200 square miles of mountains, foothills, lava fields, ranches, and irrigated farmland, SICOG’s mission is to connect residents and communities of Southeast Idaho to public services and useful resources. Our Brownfields Program connects both public and private landowners with properties located in Bingham, Power, Bannock, Caribou, Oneida, Franklin, and Bear Lake Counties to federal grant funds to assess and address known or perceived environmental contamination.

Current Brownfields Projects

To learn more about SICOG’s Brownfield projects and to review project-related documents, please visit SICOG’s office at 214 E Center Street, Suite 10, in Pocatello, Idaho, and request to view the Brownfields Administrative Record and Information Repository.

Creating Opportunity

The Brownfields Program is made possible by a $500,000 Brownfields Assessment Grant and a $1 million Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) Brownfields Grant awarded to SICOG by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Property assessment is available to landowners, developers, or local governments to identify and evaluate potential contamination on properties within SICOG’s region at no cost to the landowner.

Property cleanup options are available to landowners to address identified contamination at a property through low-to-no-cost loan options.

Strengthening Commuities

Every community in America has a Brownfield site, including our communities in Southeast Idaho. These properties are often abandoned or underutilized sites where expansion, redevelopment, or reuse may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. Brownfield sites often include:

  • Gas Stations
  • Dry Cleaners
  • Automotive Repair Shops
  • Landfills
  • Illegal Dump Sites
  • Industrial Manufacturing Facilities
  • Warehouses
  • Railroad Facilities
  • Structures Built Before 1970
  • Properties with Former Meth Use
  • Buildings with Asbestos or Lead-based Paint

By assessing and cleaning up these underutilized properties, rural and urban areas alike can revitalize these Brownfield sites and invest in the future of our communities for generations to come.
