Southeast Idaho Safe Routes to School

Every Child Deserves a Safe Route to School

Building safer, healthier communities one school at a time.

What is Safe Routes to School?

Helping communities make walking, biking, and rolling to school safer, healthier, and more accessible.

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a nationwide initiative that helps communities create safer, healthier, and more active ways for students to walk, bike, and roll to school.

Using the Six E’s Framework, Southeast Idaho Safe Routes to School partners with schools, local governments, nonprofit organizations, communities, and community leaders to improve children’s health and well-being, reduce traffic congestion around schools, and enhance the quality of life in our communities.

Southeast Idaho Safe Routes to School is funded through federal transportation dollars administered by the Idaho Transportation Department and implemented by the Southeast Idaho Council of Governments (SICOG).

We proudly serve seven counties across Southeast Idaho: Bingham, Power, Bannock, Caribou, Oneida, Franklin, and Bear Lake counties.

Walk & Roll Events

Making active transportation fun, engaging, and accessible for every school.

Walk & Roll events help schools introduce students and families to active transportation in a fun, low-pressure way. We can help plan events, provide incentives, and adapt activities for rural schools where walking or biking to school may not be practical.

Safe Route Mapping

Helping schools identify safer routes and prioritize meaningful improvements.

Safe route mapping combines local knowledge, school input, and field observations to identify where students walk and bike, highlight barriers to safe travel, and prioritize improvements. These maps help schools and communities make informed decisions about infrastructure, education, and future planning.

Bike Safety Education

Giving students the skills and confidence to ride safely through hands-on education.

We can lead engaging bicycle safety lessons at your school or provide educators with curriculum, activities, and resources to confidently teach bicycle safety throughout the year.

School Assemblies with "Cowboy" Ted

Engaging assemblies that inspire lifelong healthy habits through fun, movement, and active transportation.

Led by “Cowboy” Ted, these interactive assemblies combine Human-Powered Rodeo with engaging activities that encourage students to stay active, make healthy choices, and practice safe walking and biking habits. Schools receive an unforgettable experience that promotes wellness, safety, and positive lifelong behaviors.

Infrastructure & Grant Support

Helping schools secure funding and build safer places for students to walk and bike.

We help schools and communities identify safety improvements, secure funding, and turn great ideas into safer places for students to walk, bike, and roll.
